Choosing a print provider is the first big decision for a print on demand shop. Both Printful and Printify connect to Etsy, but they work differently, and the differences show up in your margins, your reviews and your delivery times.
How the two models differ
Printful prints most products in its own facilities. That usually means more consistent quality from order to order, and one company to contact when something goes wrong.
Printify is a marketplace of independent print partners. You pick a provider for each product. This gives you more choice on price and location, but quality and speed depend on the partner you choose.
Questions to answer before you pick
- Where are your buyers? Most Etsy POD buyers are in the US. Check where each product is printed and how long US shipping takes from that location.
- What does the exact product cost? Compare the same blank (brand, weight, print method), plus shipping in USD, not just the headline base price.
- Which products do you actually sell? Some providers are stronger on apparel, others on mugs, posters or home goods.
- How do you handle a misprint? Read each service’s reprint and refund policy before your first sale, not after.
A simple way to test
Order one sample of your best selling design from each service, shipped to your own address. Compare print quality, packaging, delivery time and the total you paid.

Bottom line
If you want consistency and fewer moving parts, start with Printful. If you want to shop around on margin and are willing to test providers, Printify gives you more options. Many sellers use both for different products.
