A mockup shows your design on a product before anyone prints it. Most print on demand sellers start with mockups and add real photos later.
Where to get mockups
- Your print provider. Printful and similar services generate mockups inside their product builder. This is the easiest starting point because the mockup matches the exact blank.
- Design tools with mockup features. Several online design tools include mockup templates. Check the licence on each template before using it commercially.
- Paid mockup packs. Sold on marketplaces including Etsy. Read the licence carefully: some allow commercial listings, some don’t.
What makes a mockup convincing
- The colour of the blank matches the real product.
- The design is scaled the way it will actually print.
- Lighting and shadows look natural on the fabric.
- Variety: one flat lay, one worn, one close up.
Avoid these mistakes
- Using a mockup of a different brand of shirt than the one you sell.
- Showing print areas larger than your provider supports.
- Copying photos from other shops. This can get listings removed.
